Green Flash Brewing Company, founded in San Diego in 2002 by owners Mike and Lisa Hinkley, will build their second brewery in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Green Flash is an award-winning brewery whose national acclaimed West Coast IPA has helped define the IPA category. Chuck Silva is the Green Flash brewmaster.

Green Flash’s new Virginia Beach location will be located on a 9-acre industrial parcel 15 minutes from the coast. The new brewery plan envisions a 58,000 sq ft facility that will closely resemble their San Diego Brewery and will include an onsite lab, a large and expansive tasting room, outdoor beer garden, event space and a brewery tour program. Construction will start late 2013 with an opening expected for 2015.

This Tuesday, February 5;  Iron Springs Pub and Brewery is featuring the CCBA in their “Give Back Tuesdays” program.

Iron Springs Pub & Brewery

As a way to contribute to their community Iron Springs has instituted a program that on every Tuesday a percentage of the proceeds from the pub are donated to a local cause or organization. Recently, Iron Springs reached out to the CCBA asking to sponsor the CCBA as part of their February program.

This is a great opportunity for increased awareness of the CCBA, letting craft beer enthusiasts know who we are and how we help support the rights and privileges of California Craft Brewers.

Prohibition was in place from 1920 to 1933.

The consumption of alcohol overall went down by half in the 1920s; and it remained below pre-Prohibition levels until the 1940s.

The Repeal of Prohibition in the United States was accomplished

with the passage of the Twenty-first Amendment to the United States Constitution on December 5, 1933; 79 years ago. As with any Amendment to the Constitution, it had to be ratified by the states. Each state had one vote. It was a close vote, and the states that were on the fence agreed to vote for the repeal only if regulation and enforcement was handed over from the federal government to the individual states. And that is why today, each state has its own set of rules and regulations governing the manufacturing, distribution and sales of alcohol.
